about us

Here at the University of Tennessee at Martin, we strive for excellence.

Dev Hawks facilitates students who are willing to strive for more.

At Dev Hawks, our mission is simple: Help prepare UTM students to enter and work in the tech industry. Today’s technological career fields, such as software development, are becoming more and more competitive. While a degree in computer science or other S.T.E.M fields are a beneficial asset when it comes to job hunting, your personal set of skills can be just as equally important. Our club strives to help its members grow their set of skills through fun and engaging activities.

We strongly advocate for our members to work together on projects and to share their skills and knowledge. Development in the industry is often the result of collaborative work - multiple developers working together. Thus, collaboration and communication are crucial skills to have. Take the knowledge you’ve gained from your classes here at UTM, (or on your own!), and learn how to apply that knowledge to various programming languages, tools, and other aspects of development!

Club Feedback

I think the President and Vice President did a great job of putting the club together and generating interest for it. Though I was unable to attend all of the meetings, I was still able to see that a majority of the members were active and interested in the club's activities. Even outside of the club space, everyone kept the Discord server active and most members played games together. Everyone always seemed to look forward to the next meeting. I think there was an impressive amount of dedicated members that consistently showed up and brought the club to life, despite how new it is!

Founding Dev Hawks started as a way to get the Computer Science students engaged and to have the ability to learn outside of the classroom. Quickly, I learned that it could be much more than that. Through Dev Hawks, I have seen many individuals break out of their shell, learn something new, and even gain friends they might've never met otherwise. I truly think what our community has allowed us to build will change the Computer Science Department at UTM forever, and I'm happy to be a part of that.

Connor Gladish

I really enjoy going to Dev Hawks meetings! My favorite things we did this semester were the game jams and the game nights, but every other meeting was also engaging with members as well. I would recommend anyone interested to definitely join!
